Whack It: Frogs, a new iPhone game from Madinsweden, is a very simple $.99 game for your iPhone. The game is the basic ‘whack a mole’ type, where you click on frog heads as they pop up out 5 different holes. Your ability to do it quickly is what gives you a higher score. Hint: using 5 fingers to cover all the holes and continuously hitting the screen is not a good strategy. 2 fingers works best. Oh, and let me know if you can beat 3600.
Really, that is all there is too it.
Is it worth $.99? Well, not for me, but my 5 year liked it, and would probably get way more value out of it than $.99.
I love the fact, though, that a developer, a single dev, could make this game, and maybe 4-5 more like it, and have a decent living. At $.99 a pop, spread over 5 titles, that is OK money. Add some more function to it, and sell for $3.99, and it gets better. The point is that there is a marketplace here, controlled as it is by Apple, but it offers a new paradigm for the small developer that the carrier decks do not.
A small developer has little (and I mean LITTLE) chance of successfully selling a game through Verizon, ATT, Sprint or TMobile in America, much less overseas in Asia or Europe. The reason is simple: marketability. With Apple, you can fully browse games, screenshots and maybe most importantly, customer reviews.
I digress…
Bottom Line: simple to learn, simple to play, made for young kids to enjoy on car trips.
